Jonn Penney aspired to acting but got distracted when he formed Stourbridge indie-rock band Ned’s Atomic Dustbin as frontman and lyricist in 1987. The band released three studio albums selling roughly one million copies, produced 100+ t-shirt designs and filled multitudinous sweaty venues from 1990-1994 during their hectic and extensive worldwide touring schedule before ‘resting’ in 1995.
The band are now part-time since reforming with all five original members in 2007. They still play large rooms and sell 1000’s of t-shirts. Having worked promotions and publicity for Wolverhampton Civic Hall for 14 years, in 2019 Jonn joined MAS Records as a mentor for new artists and MAS Lab as an advocate for peace but not necessarily quiet!
Doddy has been in awe of rock music since his early teens. He worked at sundown records in Wolverhampton when at school and attended his first reading rock festival in 76 when 15 years old.

Doddy is a regular at KK’S Steel Mill and Giffard Arms Club Nights promoting new bands with Damaged Rose productions as well as being heavily involved in many charities including co compare for Rock For Spon at The Robin Club, 2 single day charity gigs, one for epilepsy at Giffard and accoustic gig at The Duke of Cambridge for MS. Involved with Bon Fest at Kerrimuir on the Sunday, 2 hour accoustic charity gig with Radio Saltare broadcasting as well.
Scott Garrett is the Head of MAS Records and Director of his own Management company SGM Music Group Ltd.
Within his management company Scott has looked after Radio 1 playlist artists, negotiated deals with major labels such as Sony ATV Publishing and consulted on music projects for corporate clients such as Intu Shopping centre.
Within his role as the head of MAS Records (Patron Robert Plant and Ricky Wilson) – he oversees a team of 50 music industry professionals across the country who help develop over 200 acts per year in independent recording and rehearsal studios with government education funding. MAS Records can offer free recording, free rehearsal time and free business guidance and have recently negotiated free distribution for all their artists on ‘Spinnup Distribution’ who are owned 100% by Universal Records. The major advantage to MAS is artists also being able to keep 100% of all rights within their music and rights.
Leigh Sanders is originally from Cardiff but moved to the Black Country in August 2013 to start working for the Express & Star newspaper. Spending his time living in both Wolverhampton and Bloxwich since the move he has come to love the rich local music scene with rising stars in all genres.
Now working for both the Shropshire Star and Express & Star, Leigh handles album reviews and interviews with local musicians for the weekly Star Unsigned column, which has been running since 2017 to give local artists their own space to shout up about their work both in print and online. He was very proud to see so many of them nominated in 2019, and hopes for more success for them in 2020.
We are very excited to welcome back our hostess with the mostest – the wonderful Doreen, Queen of the Black Country as MC for the event.

Born and raised in Wolverhampton, England, Robin began playing guitar at an early age. A plastic Beatles’ guitar Christmas present from his mom and dad set him on his way when he was eight years old, then his mum, recognising his talent, bought him an acoustic guitar which he later swapped for his first electric guitar, a Watkin’s Rapier 33. He took his guitar to junior school, family parties and at 14 he was asked to join his first band. Robin was expelled from Wolverhampton Boy’s Grammar School, where he was, allegedly, the first person to be expelled for 100 years. When he started his next school, it was like a new lease of life; released from the power of the cane he was encouraged to embrace the power of music and became the guitar player in assemblies and school dances. He soon rebelled and was expelled again, however!
Over the years Robin has worked with them all: Dave Holland (Judas Priest), Pino Palladino (The Who), Mo Birch (Culture Club, UB40), Roy Wood (The Move/ Wizzard /ELO), Noddy Holder (Slade), Simon Kerr (Free, Bad Company), Brian May (Queen), Glenn Hughes (Black Sabbath/ Deep Purple), Spike (The Quireboys) and many many more.
2019 united Robin and Sean Harris (Diamond Head) writing and recording their brand-new Notorious album! BitterSweet HeartBeat Robins new album again featuring Charlie Morgan is finished and ready to rock… release news soon.
Also on the bench (desk) are 2 new-found retro albums. RG Dangerous Daze
Wilderness Warriors Live & RG Dangerous Guests which features friends from

The event is the brainchild of Shaun ‘Reckless’ Ryan. Shaun spent 23 years publishing, promoting and advertising live music across Birmingham & The Black Country as editor and publisher of RGG Magazine – which he founded in 1995. The magazine is still going strong under its new ownership.
“I have seen a few award events take pace over the years, and one thing that struck me was that some didn’t appear to be very open or transparent. I want the public to be the ones who nominate in each category and also choose the winner in each category. Our judges will be there as a guiding hand to whittle down the nominations to 3 in each category. I have carefully chosen judges who in all likelihood, will not be in a position to be nominated themselves. After the success of last years’ event, we couldn’t not repeat the event. This years show will be just as exciting and packed with the best the Black Country has to offer”. Shaun Ryan
